Flatbread Pizzas.
Cheap and quick pizza recipes that are ten times better than Pizza Hut's semi-edible cardboard and Papa John's racism in a box.
Meatball Marinara
1. "Crust"
First thing you need are these bad boys right here. You can use any type of flatbread as your pizza crust (pita, naan, basically anything flat and pizza crust-like). Also, make sure they're small enough to fit in your toaster oven, unless you have access to a regular oven.
2. Cook the meatballs first!
Do not put frozen meatballs on the flatbread, its only going to be in the oven for a few minutes and it won't cook all the way through. You can heat them up in the microwave or cook them on your handy-dandy George Foreman Grill.
Frozen meatballs or veggie meatballs are great to use.
2. Getcha Sauce.
Any brand as long as its marinara. Except Ragu, if you eat Ragu your'e nasty.
3. Cheese. Cheese. Cheese.
Provolone or Mozzarella, or both. You can just use bagged shredded cheese, but these little mozzarella balls are usually around $5-$6 and they melt so beautifully, it definitely makes a difference.
4. Assembly.
Crust first, then spoon your sauce.
Sprinkle your cheese. If your'e using the mozzarella pearls place them randomly on top of the sauce.
Once your meatballs are finished cooking, halve or slice them, then place on top (the neater you place them, the cuter and more presentable your pizza will be).
You can sprinkle more cheese on top of the meatballs, but its not necessary.
I recommend putting it directly on the rack so it gets crispy-crunchy, but if you went ham with the cheese put it on a pan or a piece of foil, to avoid dripping, smoke and a burnt smell in your oven.
Stick it in a 400 degree oven and take it out when the cheese melts to your liking. I can't tell you an exact time, just watch your pizza because it will burn.
5. Optional Toppings.
Topping your pizza with fresh or dried herbs (fresh basil or dried parsley) after removing it from the oven makes it look official and expensive.
Drizzling olive oil on and seasoning with salt and cracked pepper (cracked, not ground) adds to that Italian-esque vibe.
After this [optional] step, you're done!
Bonus Recipes
Hawaiian
Flatbread as your crust, barbecue as your sauce (Sweet Baby Ray's is literally heaven in a bottle).
Some type of pre-cooked chicken (grilled, popcorn, etc.) or deli ham. Place over your sauce.
Drop some pineapples. I like a lot. #PineapplesBelongOnPizza
Onions are optional. If you want onions, the red ones add a lot more flavor.
Sprinkle your cheese last. Shredded mozzarella is perfect for this pizza, but anything will do.
Put it in the oven, 375-400 degrees, until the cheese melts.
Then boom, your'e done.
Easy Veggies
Flatbread and whatever sauce you want (tomato, alfredo, pesto, plain olive oil, etc.).
Wash and cut whatever vegetables you choose. Hard vegetables like squash or eggplants should be cut thin so they can cook through. Frozen vegetables are fine to use (defrost them first) or you can find mixed, pre-chopped vegetables in the produce section of your grocery store.
Season your veggies and place them on your flatbread. Drizzling olive oil on top of your veggies keeps them from getting too dry while in the oven.
Cheese is optional, but mozzarella and parmesan work best.
Stick it in a 450 degree oven. Cook until your cheese melts. If you didn't use cheese, take it out when your crust starts to brown and your veggies shrink a bit.
Fresh herbs and more olive oil are optional.
Thats it, enjoy your fabulous creation.
