Dorm Room Appliances.

Tired of dining hall food? Cook in your dorm room. Start with one or a couple of these appliances $20 and under.

1. Toaster Oven

Probably my most used appliance. If you don't get anything else, you need this one. Great for reheating and cooking frozen food fast. It has bake, broil, toast, and warm settings to cook whatever you can fit inside of it.

2. Rice Cooker

There's a hell of a lot more foods you can cook in here than you think. Anything from mac and cheese to chocolate lava cake.

3. George Foreman Grill

Perfect for grilling meat, making quesadillas, burritos/wraps. If you can prop it up to make it a flat surface you can scramble eggs, sauté veggies, fry rice, etc. all from your dorm room.

4. NutriBullet/ Small Blender

Not a necessity unless your'e making smoothies everyday. Now that's it's getting cold I mostly use it for blending my DIY hair masks if I can't stir it. If your'e a soup or chowder person you can throw your ingredients in the blender and cook it in a pot or rice cooker. You can also blend homemade salad dressing if you wanna be extra.

5. CrockPot

This is my favorite appliance! Just look up a nice little recipe on Pinterest.com, prep, throw it in there, and a few hours later you have enough food to last you days (depending on the recipe). My favorite things to cook are chili and chicken and dumplings, but you can make anything from roasted chicken to a whole cake.

6. Coffee Maker

Regular coffee makers are better for cooking than a Keurig. Anything you need to boil can be cooked in a coffee maker. You can also put rice where the coffee grounds go and let the water run through and steam the rice after.
