Love Jones - Part One | Breakups
Sometimes things just don't work out. There can be picture perfect chemistry, serious attraction, love, and an array of other things between two people that would make them both think that it'll truly last forever, but what do you do when that doesn't happen? Well for starters don't drive yourself into a pit of sadness (maybe for like a day or two but not long term) because it'll just turn you into a walking pile of self doubt.
Being in love can be quite a challenging journey, especially when you throw in the angst and stress that comes with being a college student. Love can make you do crazy things and feel like you're on top of the world, but it can also make you feel like the entire world is on top of you when things don't pan out the way that you want.
College is a time for personal growth and meeting someone who is experiencing the same thing can either be really helpful or a serious struggle. So yes, sometimes a breakup is required in order for both parties to gain a firm hold on who they truly are, but goodbye doesn't always mean forever. Now don't get me wrong, some permanent goodbyes are absolutely necessary but every now and then special circumstances arise.
Who's to say that your future won't consist of a lover you once lost? Time and circumstance can play a severe role in the way things play out, and it might take some time until you are both ready to engage in a serious relationship again. I'd say that love in college and honestly at any young point in your life is its purest form. Breaking off a connection like that isn't easy but focusing on working through it and being hopeful for the future is sure to get you functioning again. Immersing yourself in different activities also helps, it allows you to pay attention to the details involved in other facets of your life and can help shift your perspective.
Go outside, get some fresh air, and take things day by day. Before you know it you'll be back and better than ever!
